5 Quick FACTS about GENERAL GRIEVOUS Pt. 3-Grievous, born as Qymaen jai Sheelal, was a Kaleesh male warlord who served within the military forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems as a commanding officer during the Clone Wars in the final years of the Galactic Republic. In addition to his position as a general within the Separatist Droid Army, the Kaleesh held the title of Supreme Martial Commander of the Separatist Droid Armies throughout the duration of the war, in which he used in countless engagements against the Republic's Grand Army. Recognized for his ruthless tactics and extensive cybernetic enhancements, Grievous utilized the Separatist Droid Army and his tactics to instill fear throughout the entire galaxy as he traveled and invaded planets, while also engaging numerous Jedi Knights of the Jedi Order. A native of the planet Kalee in Wild Space, Grievous became both a fearsome warrior and warlord, while also gaining an understanding for warfare and battle tactics during the Kaleesh's war against the Yam'rii of the planet Huk, which led to the upbringing of the warlord's personal vendetta against the Galactic Republic as they supported the Yam'rii and intervened in their war. After gaining a reputation, the Kaleesh's potential was recognized by the Sith Lords Darth Sidious and Count Dooku while he led his people against the Yam'rii. During his travels throughout the galaxy, Grievous came to develop a personal disdain for the warriors of the Jedi Order as he came to understand their seemingly undefeatable abilities. Sometime later, the man who became known as Grievous, had sustained severe injuries in a coordinated incident that required extensive reparations to his destroyed body, which resulted in his willing submission to cybernetic enhancements and reconstructions, as well as secret alterations to his brain, that rendered him more mechanical than organic as he received greater abilities as a result. After the newly resurrected cybernetic warlord pledged his allegiance to Dooku, Grievous became a skilled lightsaber duelist under Dooku's guidance, who trained the Kaleesh in the arts of lightsaber combat. In addition to his combat skills, Grievous was also a brilliant military strategist who oversaw countless campaigns against the Republic throughout the Clone Wars while he also gained a reputation for hunting and killing Jedi Knights, in which he would claim their lightsabers as trophies and weapons to be used against other opponents. At some point during the war, the cyborg received the nickname as the "head clanker" by the Republic's clone troopers due to his cybernetics and position as Supreme Martial Commander, and later led to his prominence as one of the Republic's primary targets throughout the course of the war. Towards the end of the war, in 19 BBY, Grievous, under orders from Darth Sidious, launched a daring and unprecedent assault on the planet Coruscant, the capital world of the Republic. In his assault, the Kaleesh managed to take the Republic's Supreme Chancellor, Sheev Palpatine, captive aboard his flagship, the Providence-class Dreadnought Invisible Hand, but was unable to escape as he was instructed by Dooku to remain in the planet's orbit and engage the Republic at close quarters. However, during the battle, the Chancellor was rescued from the general's grasp from Jedi Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, which had also resulted in Dooku's death, the leader of the Separatist Alliance, and subsequently led to the immediate withdrawal of all remaining reinforcements as Grievous fled into the Outer Rim Territories, prolonging the war. Following the Battle of Coruscant, Grievous, who succeeded Dooku as the Confederacy's Head of State, retreated to the planet Utapau where he addressed and relocated the members of the Executive Separatist Council to the planet Mustafar under Sidious's orders. However, unknown to the general, Grievous's location on Utapau was betrayed by Sidious and had subsequently resulted in a Republic invasion of the planet in an effort to bring a decisive conclusion to the war. As a result, following a prolonged chase between the two, Grievous was ultimately slain by his nemesis, General Kenobi.

Thought his cough came from his fight with Mace Windu....it only showed up in the movies. (Post clone wars)

I don't know if I should feel bad for him

On one hand, he is a cold blooded machine, the only normal part being the very thing giving him sentience

....on the other, if you awoke with your flesh and identify stripped away in a mechanical suit resulting in always being in a form of pain, as well as mental implants that control you, you would want to go after the people who (although you were lied to) were supposedly behind your transformation

Ok I know the canon explanation for the cough is his cybernetics but I also really like the explanation that it was mace windu's force crush in the tartakovsky clone wars, maybe I just really love that series lol

Grievous’s body after the crash was submerged in the blood of dead Jedi Sifo-Dyas as an experiment from Dooku to see if it could make him force-sensitive. The project was unsuccessful, if it were successful he planned to use Grievous to help him overthrow Sidious

From a certain point of view Count Dooku did tell the truth.
