You keep using the term South America. Well, Faulkner isn't a South American writer. He is from the south of the United States, specifically Mississippi. The term South America is used to refer to the continent of South America, which includes countries such as Argentina, Brazil, etc. (We sometimes used the term Latin America as well; however, Latin America includes countries outside of the continent of South America too, such as in Central America). This is not a mere semantic difference. The word South America and the word American South are very distinct entities. You can't just use them interchangeably as you would use the terms South India and Indian South. Ithu valare prathamikamaya oru karyamaanu. The region that Faulkner writes about consists of states in the United States broadly south of the Mason-Dixon line. To call Faulkner a South American writer is a monumental error.
