To save the confusion that may arise as a consequence of frequent random jumps to arbitrary past events, Faulkner has cleverly decided to refer to one of the characters by two different names, to two of the characters by the same name, and one of the characters by both her real name and nickname which happens to be "caddy", while the story is set next to a golf course. Way to clear the air ol' chap.
