Bangladeshis gathered at the Indo-Bangladesh Border in the Pathantuli area on August 09. The crowd, comprising mostly Bangladeshi Hindus, assembled some 400 metres away from the fence. The attempt was, however, foiled by the BSF which maintained a strict vigil at the border. The Bangladeshis were later removed from the spot by the Border Guards Bangladesh personnel, the BSF confirmed. Notably, a day after PM Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country, Bangladeshi Hindus have been under attack in the country. Many have been forced to flee their homes amid violence. Severe and bloody anti-govt protests in Bangladesh have resulted in an overall death of nearly 500 people till reports last received. Local media outlets have reported severe persecution of minorities in Bangladesh following recent violence. In response, several panicked Bangladeshis have attempted to illegally cross over to India in the past few days.
