The working areas are essential to map out what we will be doing as a state. A well thought out and timely strategic plan that addresses the educational needs of our students is crucial to the stability of educational institutions in this state. Addressing the social, emotional, and psychological needs of these students after such a long time of social isolation - must be addressed/

We have huge holes in rural SC with regard to internet access. Hargray is taking its own sweet time to make it happen.

Is the state going to ensure that EVERY child, especially those in rural areas have access to internet? Our neighbors contacted Hargray and were told that they have to pay for it. The amount was ridiculous.

Compensatory Services for Special Education students can be deployed when we return back to school.

If we are going to do this correctly, then ALL students should have access to this acceleration platform. Historically students who perform well in 45th and fifth grade end up bottoming out in 6th and 7th grade. If their needs are not met before they return to school in the fall - if they return to school in the fall - then the deficit will be greater. There will BE no time to catch up.

Starting school earlier is NOT going to increase the depth of student learning. Assess, evaluate, accelerate. Give the teachers what they need to teach and relieve the unnecessary stress that is involved in creating and recreating materials for instruction.

ESOL Students do not need a face to face person in order for them to develop their language skills. The educational challenges that they experience are the same as the challenges of the lower quartile students. We had this discussion when I was on the State Title III committee. They don't need more than the other students. The Language level determines what they need not their demographic classification.

Exactly - PD is not the solution to this problem. They must be experts in this field.

We need to look at what other countries are doing who have this same pandemic problem and how they resolved these issues. We cannot relate to something that we have never experienced. How about piggybacking on what others have done? What has worked? What has not?
