How to add non Spotify songs to your phone - May 2023

How do I add non Spotify songs to my phone?

I couldn't find a helpful tutorial anywhere! So after much troubleshooting, I decided to make one that actually works, until Spotify changes their system again lol.

For everyone still struggling to get it to work, here are a couple things to try.

1. You need Spotify Premium
2. Be sure you’re connected to the same WiFi network.
**You may need to allow Spotify to access your local network in your phone settings*
3. Be sure to turn local files on BOTH devices
4. Try rebooting the apps to get things moving along and updating
5. Try making sure your songs are in .mp3 format
6. Try temporarily disabling your computer’s firewall
7. Conjure a spirit from the back rooms and cross your fingers 😅

Also, you can add album artwork in windows media player or VLC 😉

This was SO HELPFUL. I've had Spotify for 10+ years and this whole process still gets me. Some of my songs randomly were no longer playing on my phone and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. I wasn't connected to the same WiFi network, so once I did that, it re-downloaded the missing songs. Come on, Spotify! Anyway - thank you. :)

USEFUL TIP!
I spent hours downloading songs and following the steps but it didn't work on my phone. It said that the songs would not sync, despite me being on the same network. Finally figured out why!

My songs were downloaded in the mp3 format and I guess it was not compatible with iPhone (I could not drag the files to iTunes either). I converted all the files into m4a (You could use a mp3->m4a converter or download your songs in m4a from the start if possible) and they immediately worked! Everything is now playable in my Spotify :) Hope it helps!

p.s: I saw some comments saying theirs only worked with mp3 files, but somehow mine only worked with m4a. So I guess just try and see which works for you!

I was having a problem getting the my downloaded songs to work on my iPhone with the message "spotify cant play this right now. if you have the file in your computer you can import it".
I fixed this by going to my iPhone's "Settings", locating the Spotify App and enabling "Local Network" where it says "Allow Spotify to Access". Hope this helps :D

Oh my God!!!! This is the only video that helped me get my downloads to play on my phone. I have been trying to figure this out for over a month, and I almost gave up. I watched countless videos and nothing was working. Thank you so much! You just saved my brain from exploding lol! I had a problem where it kept showing “not downloaded” so I tried a different way to download to mp3 on the pc and it worked,
so whoever is looking in the comments to find a solution, hopeful this helps
