Oh man I've known about this for a very very very very long time Siri, the flares must be at least three times the temperature of the jet stream and there must be hundreds of them to confuse the missile that's looking to impact with you and lo and behold the decoys are accurately saving your life 9 out of 10 times

Flares isnt good today anyway, even in the 1970's the SAHR Missiles (That use Radar tracking) just Ignore the flares, but not the chaffes, but improved SAHR missiles are much better counter the chaffs too.
