The last months (year?) I have primarily uploaded music from the late 1930s and 1940s... After a short break the time is perhaps right to feature some music from the late 1920s and early 1930s...

This video features perhaps the most famous tango from the late 1920s : "Ich küsse Ihre Hand, Madame"/ "I kiss your hand, madam", recorded by Jack Hylton and his orchestra. This is a long version recorded in Berlin exactly 82 years and one day ago and released on a 30cm / 12" record. In my opnion it is a wonderful version, unfortunately the voice comes across very weak...

A few months later Hylton also recorded a foxtrot version which will be featured in the next video.

Jack Hylton's band was undoubtedly one of Europe's most popular dance orchestras. More information can be found here :

The video features images Berlin during the "roaring 20s" as well as a few sequences from movies from the late 1930s...featuring stars Willy Fritsch and Lilian Harvey, Betty Ammann and Brigitte Helm...

Unbelievably good sound quality from 1928. There were practically no baground noise or any needle scratch at all! And a fantastic frequency range on top of that!

I adore Jack Hylton because he supported Shirley Bassey and because of him something extra-ordinary happened: Shirley Bassey and Marlene Dietrich performing on the same bill - Let the stars shine for Jack (a tribute in memory of Jack Hylton in 1965). Two of the greatest female stars of all times on one occasion - Mr Hylton deserved it.

I've heard this tune in several films during my life, It is now, today i discover that tune have German lyrics and title. Great little gem, It is added to favorites now and i keep listening and searching for music that have gone under the radar, What some record and call music today are just hopeless.

You have achieved wonders in restoring the sound to what would have been heard in the studio. Thanks

Brilliant recording, a fine example of the cradle days of big bands/orchestras!
