Born - Sawyer Fredericks - Official Video

I got into the music business at a very young age. I started busking at farmers markets and local open mics when I was 12, crossed the country to be on a reality TV show at 15, then experienced the ups and downs of a major label for 2 years, before finally going independent at 18 and self-releasing my next 2 albums. All of that was pretty stressful and one of the people that shielded me from a lot of the stress was my mom. She handled a lot so that I could still have a childhood and could focus on my music. But I wrote this song when I was 18 and I was ready to start taking on more. We had gone through an intense 3 years, spending so much time together on the road, in the studio, and even at home, I was basically living with my manager. We handled it as best we could, but we were just too tangled up. It was a painful and confusing time, for both of us. My story may be unusual, but I think most parents and teens go through feelings like these at some point. Born was about all those emotions, letting her know I needed to go through these things, because it was the only way I was going to learn and grow.

Incredibly grateful to all the artists, musicians, film crew, and actors who contributed to this song and this video. Including friends and family who volunteered to appear in the video. It has been a beautiful team effort. I also want to thank my Patreon patrons and Team Sawyer who have so generously and loyally supported my music through the years. This album, and these videos are only possible because of you.

Born

If I’m not broken
I’ll only notice once I’ve broken you
So keep your love and
Don’t wait for mine
Cause I’m a stable tomb

No need to
Waste your time
I love you
Let me cry

Don’t want you
To take my scars
I want you
To tear me apart
So long you’ve
Kept me warm
I need you to let me be
Born

If I’m not broken
I’ll only notice once I’ve broken you
And the hard cold truth is
The ones you love will turn their backs on you

No need to
Lose your mind
I love you
Let me cry

Don’t want you
To take my scars
I want you
To tear me apart
So long you’ve
Kept me warm
I need you to let me be

I stopped watching tv in 2018, and before that very picky, only voice thru the blinds, I don’t like propaganda or being told what to do think or act, I heard this and didn’t know it was you until I looked it up, I’m so grateful you got out of the machine, stay true to your spirit, as it grows and changes, keep writing thru the pains and remind people that music can change the world, we need that more than ever right now, I’m 52, piano and jukebox girl, highly intuitive, you are very rare. Stay true to your soul and surround yourself with people who love you 💜

I've been a big fan since the first note came out of your mouth at the blind auditions. Love your music, love your style! Just keep being you and doing what you do. I look forward to many many years of listening to your music and what you have to say

I came here because suddenly I remembered Sawyer's blind audition and had an hour of nostalgic videos of him during the competition. Now that I can happily be conscious of how is voice is better than before, his concept is nice and his lyrics are truthful, I'm staying. :)

I've said it on Twitter. I've said it on Facebook. Now I'll say it here. The song is perfect. The video is perfect. Staying true to yourself might not have given you the type of success you might have gotten with recording industry support, but it has given the world a unique artist. I look forward to what comes next.

WOW....Just WOW! going to make an odd comparison here, but you will understand what I mean in a moment. Though your styles and Genres were miles apart...I compare you to the Great Freddie Mercury of Queen, in that when he sang a ballad, or any song for that matter..there was no pretense, no fluff(showmanship notwithstanding), there was just pure raw emotion and love ..and one can feel every ounce of it when he sang. With You I feel it too...this is a rare commodity for a singer. When you sing I feel your sincerity, your emotion, your heart. You put it all in to great and soulful melodies. Dude you are doing exactly, I mean EXACTLY what you were put on Earth to do . I look forward to where this road will lead you. Where ever that may be, don't stop bringing joy to the world with your gifts..this is far more important in the end. !!Just WOW !!!Love it Man.

I grew up in Central NY (Utica/Rome) in the 60's, 70's & 80's before moving on as an adult but had great privilege of seeing great local NY musicians such as Benny Mardones, Chuch Mangione, Blue Oyster Cult, Ronnie James Dio, Joe Bonamassa and now you - Great job and I hope you continue your journey as you are a pleasure and refreshment to the music. I am glad you didn't let the industry take that joy away. Remember one thing, the "big" music industry is dead but musicians like you will always be there and be supported.

I've loved Sawyer from the git go....voting and voting, etc, on The Voice. There was never a doubt about his talent or that he'd win it all. I've checked his site now and then...he cut his hair some 😂! He was really young then, and he's still young. I was always mesmerized by how he sings. I, personally, think that he'll get there....he's not country but since we don't have Arlo Guthrie, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Credence, The Boss (Springsteen), Leon Russell, Janice Joplin, Joe Cocker...ALL of the greats of the 60's, 70's etc...country would be his closest genre. Sawyer would have absolutely been on the courts of kings, and queens, in the sixties. He's smart, taking it where it leads him and I hope that he will be able to initiate a change in music. Rap, headbanging, country are our only choices now? I'm a country fan but even THEY are trying to go 'mainstream'. Well, that's my offering to the topic. Sawyer is truly gifted and I have no doubt that he's gonna get that SUPERSTAR soon. ❤️🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🇺🇸😎

The hardest part of being a parent is the letting go. You want so badly to see them fly like eagles, to stand tall on their own, to full fill every dream, all the while not getting hurt in the process. I remember Soo vividly the day I turned and saw a young adult walking towards me and realizing it was my child...a child no longer. What a beautiful song to express that moment...the moment you trust that all you've taught is there to help guide them even after they let go.
I hope you continue to be the artist you are Sawyer...I'm glad you are getting to do things your way..you really do have a most beautiful gift.

"MOTHER"
"She traveled the journey before you,
She has known all the cost of the way:
She paid out the price, to its fullness,
That Motherhood only can pay.
She loved when the world was against you,
She hoped when you hope sank and died;
She clung to your hand when the clinging
Left scars in her heart, deep and wide.
She labored -and loved-and was happy,
For down deep in her kind heart, she knew
Your kindness and love would repay her,
For all that she did - just for you."
copyright 1916

Your experience with your mother is a timeless one. It's nice to know you recognized the love through the trials. Keep the music coming.
