BMW E30 M3: Say no more, what a special car this is!

We get a visit from the E30 Guru Dave from Astbury motorworx, not just to pick up a cylinder head but to give us his verdict about our E30 and to let me have a drive of his special E30 M3, made my day and pushes me harder to get ours finished

That back window extension was for aerodynamics. They weren’t allowed under the rules to change the original bodywork so they had to put the extension piece on.

They used to have those BMW Right hand drive here in Australia, I'm sure there was a paddock with 14 or more they used to run around there litte dirt circuit, thanks for sharing, all the best to yous and your loved ones

My brother has a E30 M3 the previous owner before my brother got it from his deceased brother and stored in a chock shed in Spain for 16 years before my brother bought and imported it to England suprisingly it didn't need much to get it running because it had all it's fluids and petrol drained out prior to being stored. But over the years hes done a bit of modification to it but kept it factory looking he regularly drivers it if it's not raining or snowing

there is a factory tool for measuring the liners on the Alfa, it sits on top of the block and holds 2 dial guages one for each side of the liner.

That Alfa setup looks like a machining nightmare! Good thing you have the experience and tools to do the work on it. I am impressed! Love the engine in that bimmer!

Did the M3 have a dog leg gear box R 2 4
1 3 5 gear stick order the one I had for six months it had was a left hucker, 1800 miles on the clock, it ended up in Saudi Arabia, beautiful colour like a sky blue, black convertible roof and light blue leather interior 👍🏻 gorgeous car.

Buddy of mine bought an E30 and did an engine swap. He swapped the powerplant for an LS3. Looks totally stock, but a monster resides within. Some purists may have a problem with it, until they see what the car is capable of.

Looking good! I think you'll find that setup a much less troublesome procedure in the future. I've never seen a block that didn't "move" after being through thousands of hot/cold cycles. The Ford 300 CID in-line 6 cylinder can be so bad that there are times when the main bearings need replaced you cannot install a purchased "crank kit". The mains bearing journals in the block will be so far out of line that you cannot get the crankshaft back into the main bearing! This also means the camshaft and head surface are no longer true. BUT if you actually take the time to machine that engine back true, it will last forever due to the block being "set" or cured. I've had customers that couldn't understand that the block couldn't be reassembled without the machining. They would complain that "it ran every day until it started knocking." Or that "it just needed bearings".

I’ve researched Vic Lee’s M Team which won the British Touring Car Championship and Vic started winning BMW offered semi works status which meant acces to works parts.
You may be wondering what’s this gotta do with anything but bearing in mind Vics beating the works Prodrive Official Works M Team I got to thinking who did Vic use to rebuild his engines and I couldn’t believe who it was .
I could buy a euro spec M3 and take it to a guy who’s engine won the BTCC and nobody knows who it was as he doesn’t talk about the BMWs either .
Anyway I love the Cosworths but I do like a e30 m3
