Understanding Common Types of Learning Disabilities

Truly understanding common types of learning disabilities, is what makes special education teachers so successful at working with those with learning disabilities. One has to have a good understanding of what it means to have learning disabilities.

We often talk about learning disabilities as if they were learning problems. It has become a generic term, but the truth is its a Specific Learning Disabilities and two different people could have learning disabilities and yet have very different learning challenges. That is because there are several different learning disabilities (I like to say learning disabilities) that full under the umbrella of what a specific learning disability really is.

It is my hope, whether you are a teacher, parent or an administrator, that you take the time to bush up on your understanding the different types of disabilities, specific learning disabilities,- that is.

I’m an SLP and honestly… I think I may have had all of these but my parents were too prideful to take me to such services 😭 😭

I’ll take what I didn’t have to help my future clients

This was very informative! There are some kids who even with a lot of support don’t seem to grow or make very little progress. Looking forward to learning about strategies to help these students!

Love your work! I just wanted to add dyspraxia which can impact fine motor (writing), gross motor (running skipping hopping coordination), direction (left right), working memory, and organising planning or following sequences of directions. It can also co-occur with aphasia (speech)

Hello ~ I have one of those disability’s along with a dash of Dyscalculia I believe. I know also I have slow processing speed but I learned that it’s not a disability just a person who takes longer to take information in 😊💕 Thank u for sharing this video

All the test and them just putting me in special ed class and never REALLY explained anything to me about learning disability. I can not comprehend things most of the time or speak without twisting thing's up. I can perfectly have a conversation with myself in my head but when I speak everything comes out wrong lol. For math I get constantly yelled at by teachers to the point I'm scared to even do math around people unless it's my family. Fractions I understand how to do it but my brain keeps doing it the wrong way.

Good afternoon and I enjoyed the video. I have a question I'm a person with learning disability due to me as a baby who was left unattended with a older girl who made me swallow a pill which was my grandmother's nerve pills due her medical situation. It took me a while to wake up until I got to the hospital which is located in New Haven CT. My biological mother who's known as an schizophrenia who was unable to care for me at that time because she had me on a schedule for a bottle feed. We'll apparently she took me on the bus which I read the report instead of calling the ambulance which I have almost died. So now it ruined my understanding of comprehensive to learn a certain task in time management even though I'm trying my best. But I'm 45 years with three children who are two adults and one teen and plus a grandmother of twins. My question is, will it affect m livable life style and employment even if I do ministry work. Also I have a learner's permit but I'm in the process of getting my driving license in CT before I move to Texas

Me and five of my friends have a learning disability and my one friends father treats us like we're equal to a 5 year child. It pisses me off big-time. He's mr. Perfection and his wife is mrs. Perfection. Everyone in that family is very mean scary and fricking nuts. I'm not a little kid.
