The Digital Integration Platform enables IoT-based experiences at Microsoft by standardizing signals from different sources, which is used to deploy new employee experiences at scale.

Eric Slippern, a principal software architect with the employee productivity engineering team at Microsoft, shares how the Digital Integration Platform connects data from different IoT devices so employees and guests can feel supported and be their most productive selves when they come to Microsoft buildings.

Instead of managing different signals from dozens of different devices, Slippern and his team standardize disparate signals within the platform before ingesting that data in Microsoft IoT Hub, Microsoft Azure Digital Twins, Microsoft Azure Maps, and Microsoft Azure Time Series Insights. This, along with RealEstateCore best practices, empowers a plug-and-play environment for quickly creating IoT-driven experiences across Microsoft’s buildings and spaces.

“We rely on some proven patterns to integrate all the data from various sources,” Slippern says. “Then, we leverage Azure Digital Twins to contextualize that and provide a consistent API service that our teams can use to build IoT-powered experiences.”
