I'm pretty much always oversensitive to light, sound, touch, temperature. I think I'm bad with the sense of space/balance as I think I have dyspraxia. Interoception, I'm not sure. I feel thirsty very often though so maybe oversensitive

I struggle with interoception a lot! I can't tell if I'm hungry, thirsty, need the toilet, going to vomit etc 😬

I have no sense of smell. It’s rubbish.
Yet some days I’ve really struggled with smells. Recently I had a toilet roll in my living room and it was shea butter fragrance. I had to remove it from the room because it was doing my head in whereas normally I can’t even smell anything even if I tried

I don't have autism or SPD, but I have always struggled with balance, spatial awareness, and drinking water. I just don't know when I am thirsty. I was taken to the hospital and had to get fluids for dehydration. I am also sensitive to some things but it is usually tolerable. Until it exceeds that border. They are sound, smell, and touch. NOT PAIN. I am less sensitive to hot and cold. I suspect I might be autistic. But I have no family support (I'm an adolescent). But that doesn't matter right now. I hope you have a great day!

I experience a ton of this stuff with ASD and ADHD

There's also an interesting thing about senses where for instance I get easily overstimulated by various noises, but when I listen to music or tv with headphones, then I like to crank it up to 11 just to make sure I can enjoy every little detail. Not sure what that's all about. I think it works similar for other senses as well, like I mostly prefer a darkened room, but I've had a pleasure of starring at the sun as well (at sunset only ofc).

If you’re undersensitive to touch would that mean you love being touched and often ask for things like hugs?

Oh that definitely helps. Some days I'm so incredibly sensitive to sound that it's ridiculous. Other days I'm mostly ok in that department (sensitive but not so much that I want to scream at whatever is making my ears literally hurt).

Actually, all of these parts are affected with my sensory processing disorder

Over and under- sensitivity is one area of sensory processing, but there's also sensory discrimination which is so often missed! The ability to determine what it is you are sensing and as a result whether the sensation triggers fight or flight responses or deems the input safe!

There's also sensory-based motor stuff which is related to praxis/dyspraxia. Your ability to organise the sensory information and form an appropriate (as in right for you, not socially appropriate) response.

It is very confusing. My interception is over in some areas and under in others. I can almost never feel or find my heartbeat or pulse. Things in my brain and central nervous system I think I feel much more strongly than many people, which is somewhat useful in figuring out what's going on there, but rather unpleasant given what is going on.

It's never been easy to judge if I have sensory issues with smell, since many or even most things don't bother me, but some things are consistently awful, like scents and perfumes. I can't even tolerate flowers with scents. But I have always tended to have respiratory allergies, so I always assumed it was that. Noise is just a constant source of irritation and overwhelm, but it's hard to know if that's sensory issues or GAD. I've never been good with bright lights, and that I feel sure is sensory.

Lockdown started something for me. I went from one single panic attack (that I now know was caused by sensory input) to at least 1 a week. I think the overstimulation over being back in school after not needing to deal with it was too much. It was always at lunch as well. This is when I started to realise something was different. With me. Now 2 year later I know I struggle with sensory issues and always have but as a young child I didn’t really understand that.

I have high functioning autism. I hate sudden, loud noises. I get anxious if I see a balloon. I love the look of fireworks, but the noise scares the crap out of me. Wearing noise canceling headphones has really helped make them more enjoyable.

I got a weighted blanket and sometimes I love it and sometimes it's annoying.

I am under sensitive for feelings I think, compared to others. Extremely oversensitive to smell and taste to a point people think I only like bland things but they don't taste bland to me and they can't smell the things I can smell.. I had to make rules that no one put spices in pans because it makes it so stinky I can't even walk into the house!! Some people think I'm being mean but they don't have to live inside my body..
