On today’s episode I want to talk about my favorite German castles. This is only a small list because - in case you didn’t know - Germany has a ton of them. But as the weather gets slowly better and some tourists are slowly trickling back into the land of beer and pretzels…I thought I would recommend my favorites….

My favourite castle in Baden-Württemberg is Schloss Favourite in Rastatt. It is not much of a hike and not quite as old but very idyllic and dainty.

... and if you like the "make believe" castles of the 19th century Historism era, Schwerin castle is fun!

1. Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are not Germany, they are part of Germany! It is a typical American mistake to equate these two southern states with Germany.
2. Germany has well over a thousand castles and palaces in all conceivable shapes and forms just within the current borders of Germany, so it is utter nonsense to draw up a list of the best.
3. In my personal opinion, the Marksburg, diagonally opposite Koblenz, is one of the most interesting because it is the only castle on the Rhine that was not destroyed by the French and Napoleon.
