NASA confirms 5,000+ planets | US News | NewsRme

Показать описание
Astronomers have discovered more than 5,000 exoplanets beyond our solar system.
The NASA Exoplanet Archive now has 5,005 exoplanets, an increase of 65 over the previous number.
These exoplanets include tiny rocky worlds like Earth, gas giants bigger than Jupiter, and "hot Jupiters" orbiting their stars at a high rate of speed.
NASA, on the other hand, emphasizes that the 5,005 planets discovered so far represent just a "tiny proportion" of the galaxy's total, which may number in the hundreds of billions.
There are many more gaseous exoplanets than terrestrial ones, according to NASA's database.
Documents published in peer-reviewed scientific journals that corroborate exoplanet findings utilizing numerous detection methods or analysis approaches.
Another newly discovered exoplanet is K2-377 b, which has the mass of 3.51 Earths and orbits its star in 12.8 days, making it a "super Earth."
Toi-1064 b, which NASA refers to as "possibly rocky planet," is a 'larger-than-Earth-sized' world.
To find exoplanets, scientists often use the transit technique, which involves measuring the change in brightness of a star when a planet passes in front of it.
