The Imperial Cult is both the Imperium's greatest blessing and greatest curse. With such strict and intolerant religious dogma used to preserve the Imperium, it also inadvertently creates a lot of resentment towards the Imperium. Its almost poetic and I'd argue, similar to some relgious beliefs in our own reality. In many areas, the Imperium is it's own greatest enemy, but a lot of times it has no choice, just because of the sheer size of the galaxy and how things work in WH40k.

I do love how chaos works whene talking about defending against it. As far as I know there are 2 ways.

Either know nothing that way you won't show up on there radars but the moment you do show up get corrupted or know everything so you can actively resist

The in-between zone of knowing some makes you a target and makes you fall to its temptation

I believe the Pharaoh is more worried about the Nids than the Chaos Gods. I mean they shatter and own gods but whatever the Nids are is far more dangerous. So maybe the Emperor was like of the same mindset, ignore this threat and focus on others, which is a mistake.

To be fair, a lot of people suffer so much under the Imperiums regime, thay would gladly pray to any entity to end their suffering. Naively so cause it would not get better but it would still empower chaos.

The Inquisition, the Space Marine Chapters, Sisters of Silence, the Emperor's Bodyguards, All of Cadia, and the Greyknights know of Chaos. But they can fight Chaos, also with the Sisters of Battle, the Guard, and the Mechanicsis. I don't know if this is true but Certain Guards from Certain worlds can fight chaos without being killed after beating Chaos. I do know that if you see a Greyknight you are killed, because the Inquisition can't risk Chaos knowing of these anti Chaos units. If I missed something here please Comment below.
