I used to be a fishmonger at a high end grocer, and hate to tell you, but almost ALL wild caught fish has parasites. That's why you cook it, not sushi grade.

I used to do a lot of spearfishing and fishing in Southern California. Typically, when you fillet a big yellowtail, calico bass, halibut etc. you’ll find the same worms in the flesh of a fish just pulled out of the ocean. That’s why we flash freeze our fish before we have any sashimi or sushi which kills the worms. They are not a problem and cookout of the meat just fine. Almost all saltwater fish have worms in their flesh.

I used to work as a salmon guide in Alaska. Filleted thousands of salmon during that time. They all have worms. The worms often coil up between the sheafs of muscle so you won't see them if you're just looking at the fillet or holding it up to the light. You can also get quite sick if you ingest a live one. I don't eat fish anymore, but if I did, I wouldn't eat any raw fish unless I knew it had been frozen for long enough and then thawed.

I worked in a seafood department for Canada’s biggest grocery chain. Trust me, worms are natural and live in live fish. Cod is especially rife with them. The fillets go over a conveyor belt at the processing plant with a light underneath so workers can spot and remove worms. Sometimes a few are missed. Just pluck it out if you’re the lucky one to get one in your fish and carry on with cooking. It’s not a sign of bad fish .. your nose will tell you that lol.

What would really be shocking is finding live salmon in your Costco worms

This is why you cook it to the recommended temps. No problems after that

Newsflash. Most fish you buy from a store has worms in it. It was one of the main things they highlighted when I was certified in ServSafe.

This is nothing out of the ordinary and exactly why you absolutely need to make sure fish is cooked thoroughly.

Initially, I thought, "You're surprised to find a worm in your fish? Might it simply be the one you used to catch the fish?" 😊🤣😁

I worked at a high end fish market breaking down whole fish and cutting fillets- wild fish occasionally have worms. It's totally normal and proof that the cut is really fresh. This clearly isn't sushi grade, you cook it and you're good to go. No infestation, just natural wild caught fish.

Almost every fish species we eat has worms, most are taken out on light tables at the processing plants, I'm a commercial fisherman when I bring fish home I hold the fillets up to the light to look for them once removed the fish is fine to eat, most likely a lot of the fish you've eaten has had a worm or two extracted before packaging

I wonder what type of Costco membership that worm has?

This just popped in my feed, but prior to my disability I managed a Fish counter at a High End Grocery chain in Brooklyn, NY. That is actually NORMAL believe it or not. MOST FISH HAS WORMS, it was actually one of my most annoying and tedious activities every morning when setting up the case removing worms from Sea Bass, Cod, Halibut, Flounder, Sole, Salmon, Snapper, Monk Fish, etc. I think you get the point. Most fish has worms, a good Fish Shop will remove the worms before putting them up for sale like I did.
