I watched your videos on Sorting Shared Matches, and on ThruLines and
boy did I learn a lot from every one of them. Snipper is great as is the
DNAPainter. I found it was surprisingly fast to break up all the Common
Ancestors on the Match list into family groups based on my great
grandparents. Then I found it was easy to sort out a lot of the shared
matches without common ancestors (above 50 cM) into those groups by
using the Shared Matches by bringing up those I was sure of and clicking
on the Shared Matches at the top. Then I started using the ThruLines. I
did like you and started with my parents, then grandparents and worked
my way up, and up, using them to add more matches to the family groups.
More people were added to the Thrulines and they yielded some
significant matches. Wow! Today a couple of major brick walls just
tumbled to the ground. Thank you so much.

I work for Ancestry, and I just submitted a request to move the subgroup dropdown out of the way. It is really annoying, I agree! Workaround: if you tag from the bottom to the top, you can avoid the overlay. But I've still requested a fix.

Great informative video
Will use it as on my mums
I have already clustered mine with the ancestry tools using similar method
I was able to use it to find out where a 2nd Great uncle had emigrated to from a third cousin match
Dna and the ancestry tools are amazing

I am so glad you have a great speaking voice and not in monotone. And your audio equipment seems far better than the others I have tried to listen to. I hate the fact that Ancestry only allows 24 color groups and then doesn't offer the create option when you are maxed and they don't tell you this info, I thought I lost my mind, until I went to your FB group and someone told me.

Another fantastic video Larry! I had two screens up at the same time (side by side) - one listening and watching your YouTube video on clustering, the other was my Ancestry DNA page and implementing each of your steps as I'm watching/listening. Worked great. I didn't have as many 2nd and 3rd cousin DNA matches as your Father-in-law, nor did I have very many matches that had more than one color, so I ended up doing 8 lines. So looking forward to the next video!

Larry, Thank you for all the hard work researching and perfecting ways to help us find family we have been missing. Your scientific method is inspiring, your sense of humor is enjoyable. The biggest challenge for me is connecting the dots that are so obvious to you and probably others. I'll keep clustering and and sorting and diagramming until I get it right, LOL. But thank you for making the genealogy and DNA stuff make sense.

Just doing these simple steps I figured out a DNA secret in our family. I had my own DNA surprise a few years ago and now I'm trying to learn how to help others find their biological families. Thank you for these videos!!

I want to let you know, I love the work, a lot of information in your video which my sister in law suggested to me. But I am that student who sits in the lecture and hopes for a bulletin point handout because my eyes glaze over. So yes I'm on my 3rd time through hoping to make a handout I can use. But for those who do lectures like this, go for it Larry is great at this and he doesn't miss anything. I'm hoping to add my son's DNA to our family tree that is already there and I have added mine too.

Could you post the links to the 3 other vids in your comments? I can't seem to find or sequence them. Thanks so much. This vid has been super helpful!

Thanks so much, Larry. I've watched so many interesting and informative videos (by Ancestry, MyHeritage, FTDNA and others) in preparation for tackling my family research but this is the first one that has really explained where to start sorting my tens of thousands of Ashkenazy matches. I'm now itching to get started. I've enjoyed all your videos so far. Keep it up!

Hi Larry Been watching your videos for quite sometime and caught this one last night. Great suggestions! What surprised me is i think we might be related! My grandfather maternal is a Halsey and in your video the names i have just been coming across in my research the last couple of days came up in your video. Not only Halsey but Howell and Mary Conkling. Talk about a surprise. Trying now to find you directly on Ancestry.

Awesome! I’m working on 3 adoptees and I can’t wait to try this with them! You rock! 🌹 ❣️ 😍

I’m going to try this method for my nephew. His mother was adopted and this should help with leads. Great job!

Thank you! I did not know about the Shared Matches feature. This will help me triangulate the genetic ancestor of my 5th great-grandfather as he was adopted.

Loitering through your series, Larry. Achievement met: Part One viewed, LOL. I must comment that you are correct to say that this methodology is simpler than Dana Leed's method. Also, if you gain a new match, then you can just add it to the group rather than updating that sprawling, excel spreadsheet. I am so coveting those who have 1st cousins, etc. in their DNA matches. My husband has many, but, I do not have a first cousin on either side of my family tree. Oh well, that's what makes each family unique. Hmmm, I'm addicted now and will watch all the series onto step two.
