We've been growing tomatoes over the past 5 years or so. Tomato plants are the source of a lot of home gardening tips. By far the most productive for us is "tickling" the blooms and hand-pollinating the plants. If you have an old Sonicare or sonic toothbrush, you can use it to hand-pollinate your flowers. The vibrations mimic the bees that would typically do the job. You can see little "clouds" of pollen come out of the blooms and spread. Very cool. It definitely increases your yield, if you have the time to do it.

The other thing we do is collect eggshells throughout the year. We crush them down as we collect. When it comes time, we take the pieces and run them through a coffee mill to create a powder. As soon as the plants are put in, we dust the top of the soil with the powder. A tablespoon or so around the base of the plants. Using a small hand sifter helps spread it around. The small particles get broken down much faster than large fragments of shell. The calcium powder sinks down into the soil where the roots can get at it. Since we started doing this, we haven't had problems with blossom end rot.

The last thing we've had help with is aspirin. One crushed up into a cup of water to dissolve it. Then add that to your gallon watering jug. When you know beforehand there is a longer period of wet weather, water the plants with this a day or so beforehand. What it does is stimulate the plant's natural immunity. This way the threat of fungus or mold from wet weather is less likely to happen.

WOW! I would love to see what your plants looked like when you first brought them in from your garden. I have a couple sun gold tomato plants which have been outside in water, so they have great roots...but have never before brought tomatoes in...now what??!!! HELP!!!

Also, I guess tomatoes do not need to be pollinated in order to produce fruit?

Thought I’d see a video on how to grow tomatoes indoors ( start to finish ) not how to tie up established tomato plants, what a waste of my time.
