Song: John, Take Me with You - JW Francis
@JWFrancis

This song came up on my Spotify earlier this year and my brain wouldn't let me stop imagining the singer as Garfield singing to his beloved Jon Arbuckle. Most of the time it seems like Garfield is pretty apathetic towards Jon, but I think deep down he'd be broken without his sad human companion. I'm no Garfield buff though, so I don't really know, haha.

This animation took me longer than expected, it started as a little side thing I was working on while working on the Streetpass video and like usual I found myself putting a lot of time and effort into it. I really wanted to play around with compositing with this, so I went for a 90's VHS look, I think I was successful??

Thanks for watching!

I would never be brave enough to make a sad garfield AMV

It's nice to see Garfield being a funny melodramatic cat again after so much fan content depicting it exclusively as an eldritch monster or in a depressing way.

“I’ll only be gone for a couple hours.”
“Do you know how long that is in cat years?”

Nah why is Garfield genuinely so adorable in this animation

Garfield's apathy being due to genuine depression is a thought that kinda hit me like a truck

This has gotta be my new favorite video ever. As a Garfield enthusiast this just makes me so immensely overjoyed. The animation presented is at another level, as well as the way the characters are portrayed, both with their actions and how they’re shown. Jon needing Liz to help him with his bow tie just screams Jon Arbuckle. Garfield looks so adorable, as well as big and lazy, and as he should be. The fluent movement is pleasant on the eyes, and the backgrounds are amazing. My favorite detail is the portraits of Garfield and Odie on the walls. It’s nice to see Odie even for a little bit as he is absent for the duration of this masterpiece. It feels like this exquisite song was created specifically for a Garfield animation. According to the video essay “What the internet did to Garfield” out of hundreds of Garfield comics, (not every single one but still a lot) Garfield did not attempt to console Jon about his miserable existence, nor try to make him feel better even once. Even with this information being apparent, I always thought that Garfield deeply cared about Jon, and not just because Jon buys him food and whatnot. In this obscure Garfield book where Jon and his pets go camping, a panther attacks them, and Garfield risks his own life to save Jon and Odie. Garfield also fears being alone, evident from a nightmare that he had that spanned a few days worth of comics. His worst fear is being away from his family. I apologize for that tangent, but I just find the entire premise of this animation to be cute, considering it is widely believed that Garfield simply views Jon as the pathetic imbecile that supplies him with lasagna. I simply want to thank you for creating this. You have no idea how much this has improved my life. You are truly a hero.

He's not upset because he thinks he losing Jon, he's upset because Jon's taking Liz to an Italian restaurant and Garfield wants to go along.

I love this, it's just Garfield wanting John's love.

Everybody is talking about Garfield not being a cosmic horror for once-
Meanwhile, I'm surprised Jon somehow lasted 50 seconds without screwing up his date 😅

I love how his face changes to that last, super simplified expression. I like to imagine he’s going:

“Oh hey he’s back!”

The fact I cried to a Garfield animation is pretty special.
Holy shit, the animation is so gorgeous.

I love the idea that Garfield legitimately felt like he was losing his place in the family when Jon and Liz started dating. That's why he reveled so much in the "we're BACHELORS, baby" punchline. Because being a bachelor with Jon was nice and cozy and it was just the two of them always. He didn't want it to be ruined.

Finally! A refreshing Garfield content where he remains a lovable comic feline and not turning him into Lovecraftian entity.

This is so much sadder when you remember that in one of Garfield’s nine lives, he had to be separated from his owner for a while because she found a love interest, so they couldn’t see each other for a really long time. Poor garf is probably reliving that experience
