My 1952 MGTD here in Australia had the stainless steel sleeves as you say. Not sure how old they are, but they also had their pistons frozen in. But once cleaned they were good to go.

ideally, when you encounter an heavily pitted wheel cylinder and a new part is not available, you install a brass or stainless sleeve or you overbore it to the next size and fit a cup and piston to that size.
on such a repair, reliability of the intervention is of prime importance.

I take it there isn't a metal sleeve inside of the wheel cylinder bore? I'm amazed those housing don't wear out quicker with a steel piston going in and out. Seems to me that a sleeve would solve a lot of problems with those.

will this process work for the master cylinder from TD as well?
