I’m from Wales (Cymru), and legend has it, the Cimmerians came to wales. There is a place in Wales named ‘Rhondda Valley’, meaning ‘Good Spear’.

Theres a place in Rhondda called ‘Cymmer’, which is closely related to ‘Cimmerian’s’.

Thank you for this well done video, it reminded me of what I learned years ago. Some things, I had learned a little differently, for example, the Cimmerians were also a seafaring people and came across the Black Sea to Danmark, Anatolia and Italy. Another name for Cappadocia is Gamirk.A place next to Troya was Gambar. Another name for Kimmerians was Cimry in German Gambar.
The Cimmerians have lived on the Black Sea for a very long time and that is exactly their name, Gamb- ur = Kim-Ur = Aryans from the dark land. The Cimmerians = Gambar = were more than just a people, but also Agatyrses, Teutons and Ambrones. They were Germanic peoples, Proto-Celts. The former Germans called them Gambar. Who were also in Italy as Umbrons. In Roman times they were called Cimbri.One of the first Celtic kings was Cymbrus .The Cimmerians = Cymbri of the Crimea, Kuban and Ukraine were related to the Danaoi of the Danube. The Danaoi were descendants of the Danu from early Assyria 2500BC.According to the Bavarian Chronicle, Celts King Theurer is king of the Cimmerians, Scythos and Dracos. They invaded 1500BC., the Middle East and ruled in Asia Minor and the Crimea. Western Anatolia is now called Theutrania. At that time, Crimea, the land of the Cimmerians, had the name Tauris from Taurus = Bull = German.

But what happened to the ones who entered Asia Minor from the west?

It is clear to me that for Robert Howard, a man from Texas during the 1930s, all these tales of civilizations that disappeared in distant places must have been the perfect backdrop to paint a story of the fictional character of Conan the Cimnerian.

We know there was complex civilization during de Bronze age and suddenly, whithin a lifetime, boom, back to barbarian lifestyle. Whatever happened must have been of apocalyptical scale.

Robert Howard wrote a series of pulp fiction tales for Weird tales magazine. Then others continued his work. The copyright around Conan seems to be split nowadays.

In the original work Conan was some sort of antihero who was not a compassionate man, but had a strong sense of right and wrong. But his emotional handling was primirive and made him have barbarian savage and dark behavior sometimes. Young Conan was more impulsive and old Conan was more likely to do the right thing.

Howard tells the story of Conan through all these tales that feel more like Flash Gordon in a fantasy land with monsters and savage tribes and corrupt civilizations.

If you look for lots of history, Conan may not be the best place to go. But the good thing is that it attracts fans of his fiction to dig history when these names of cultures and civilizations appear before them.

Marvel removed the dark savage element to make it family friendly. And the movie turned Valeria into a mashup of Conan characters. Howard's Valeria was a mercenary, not a thief. And the great love of Conan who tragically died and returned from the death to assist Conan was Be'lit and not Valeria.

Be'lit was a beautiful but very dark princess with white pale skin who was deprived of her kingdom and was a captain of a pirate ship with a crew composed of warriors, which was fanatically obedient. You can see her story in "queen of the black coast".

If you want a historical depiction of an adventure, well, you have a settlement ruins near a poisoned river snd winged gorillas monsters. Conan is more sword and sorcery, closer to Lord of the Rings than a history book.

The Conan movie triggered enthusiasm for the sword and sorcery genre.

Conan lore seems to mix eras. Cimmerians were Iranian people who lived some centuries after the end of bronze age.
And it mentions Atlantis which is supposed to be in Mauritania in a place called Richat structure which matches the descriptions of Plato in the size, location of mountains, concentric rings, and even in the colors of stones he describes. Richat has salt deposits which signals terrain was under the sea at some point in time.

Some people believe Atlantis sank like 13000 years ago. Too much time to find remnants of ruins. And local people used the stones to build their homes so the hope of finding ancient buildings is next to zero.

So Conan is clearly fantasy and fiction.

In the 1930s Helena Petrona Blavatsky's The Secret Doctrine claimed to use "spiritual archeology" and became almost like a Bible for believers of esoterism. It mentions Atlantis and dark barbarian civilization enders called Turanians which some people link to the end of bronze era and were enders of other civilizations across the globe.

But the secret doctrine is fiction too. It claims that the first materialization of humans were the Lemurians lived in the lost continent between Madagascar and India. Lemur animals live in Madagascar and India but there is no lost continent. Continental drift moved India away from Madagascar. The secret doctrine was written before tectonic plates were discovered.

If you read the book it is a complex fictional universe that describes very imaginative things. It is like taking Lord of the Rings and bring it a few notches up in terms of adding a mystical realm. No wonder why theosophy uses it as its bible.

It would be exciting to believe that these Turanian civilization enders ended bronze age. It is exciting to think that many civilizations panicked and buried their pyramids to not be defiled and corrupted by these evil people. It is a shame it is just fiction.

At least with Conan we know it is fiction. And it is amusing to get into its lore, just like Star Wars or Star Trek fans get into their respective lore.
