How to sculpt rough rock texture in concrete | Small concrete rock tutorial

Today I want to share how I add realistic texture to faux concrete rocks. This is a tutorial on creating a small artificial rock, but the same sculpting principles apply to large concrete boulders as well (larger rocks just require a different style of armature and concrete mix). This naturalistic rock was mainly created as a texture test for future concrete rock feature that I plan to build in my yard. This texture works well for rough rocks but could be applied sparingly to smooth rocks as well. This method would work for nearly any fine aggregate concrete.

Nice job! Brick as an armeture is a great idea. I'm making my first 2 foot boulder out of a cardboard box that I paper macheed (inside and out) as a sealer to keep the integrity of the cardboard when it's time to apply concrete. It's working so haven't done the texture coat yet. Your video is helpful. Thanks.
