The ALL-NEW 2023 BMW X1 brings with it some pretty major controversy...

You see, this is the first BMW to come with its new subscription services - pay to unlock the heated seats and steering wheel! But that really overshadows what is otherwise incredible; the all-new X1 has best in class dynamics, tech, comfort and safety. So should you buy the all-new 2023 BMW X1? Let's talk about that!

We release videos every Sunday 5pm AEST / AEDT with the latest new car reviews! Your feedback is important, so if you want to see us do something new or something you would like me to change let me know!

Great review. I'm quite torn. Its not the right comparison but your thoughts on this new X1 vs the old X2 (yes its dated) but I kinda think the X1 is more the school pickup mum while the X2 is for the weekend dad?

Great review as always! I hope you can review the 2023 M240i, that has iDrive 8 as well. Please do it before the new M2 arrives!

Awesome review guys! The car is stunning!
Can’t wait to see the iX1!
On a side note, you have spelt ‘subscribe’ wrong! 😂

The lifetime cost looks like what you’d pay for the feature anyway. This is not the first BMW with subscriptions. BMW used to charge subscription fees for Apple CarPlay until the furore made them backtrack. I think you’ll find the same with this plan.

As others have said, it’s easy to unlock these things with vehicle coding so this may end up being an own goal.

Mind showcasing the ambient lighting if you happen to review the S18i

BMW needs to be punished in whatever commercial ways available for this absolute shitshow of subscription. If you buy into it you're 100% the problem.

There are lots of software unlocks for the subscriptions you can just pay and unlock via USB for like

I looked at one of these last week, it was great! There is NO way I’d buy one while BMW is trying to screw people with subscriptions.

I have just taken delivery in the UK. Overall pleased except that at four days old it's booked in to have the heated seats fixed. For some reason the factory did not activate the heating function. My dealer asked me to subscribe and pay £350 (which they said they would refund). Unfortunately the seats failed to activate.

Uh does anyone know why the australian version of xdrive makes lesser power and torque than the usa and canada version. here in canada it makes 295 lb/ft of torque. And yeah we do not have the sdrive at all since it is only 2 wheel drive.

This car is fantastic. We've had ours for three days now and it is an absolute blast to drive, had new michelin cross country 2 tires put on and it's performance in the snow is amazing.

Is the (not sliding) reclining backseat, a standard for all models ?

The one thing I have noticed on the RHD versions is they have not flipped the center console around, meaning that it opens away from the driver. Have you noticed this annoyance? This seems like a cheap oversight by BMW.

It would be helpful to actually test out the safety features like rear cross traffic alert, forward collision braking, and so on. Being the owner of both an X1 and a Venza, have to say warnings are much better done in the Toyota.
