Yup definitely agree with the old school test light. Best otc one. Power probes are dangerous in the wrong hands for sure.

On my way to being a diag tech. A power probe and a digital multimeter(DMM) are a must as well. Not to forget an ammeter for slow drains and also to use in combo with other diag equipment.

Back in the day, a good shop had a " Sun Machine", oscilliscope, exhaust sniffer, tach and dwell were on there too. And, if they had a distributor machine, man, that was nice. Times have changed.

Thermal imager’s work really well for a lot of things diagnostic on a car.

More diag videos I’d love to see! Graphing scan tool for drivability issues would be great

I love that you mentioned a regular bulb and not a led in your test light!

I was a mechanic for a few decades. Then I realized that I had become a tv repair man with dirty hands.

I am grateful for this channel and for the work you guys do. I appreciate the extra time you take on some of your videos especially on how to correctly set and hook up the scope.
Thank you for taking the time to make great and helpful videos. I think you are doing ATS scope a great favor by demonstrating its outstanding features. If you come across a decent promo codes for ATS scopes, please let me know.

ASE Certified Master Technician here. I have to add two more tools that are critical for diagnostic purposes "at least they have been in my experience". The first are expanding/retracting test leads to ensure I can provide a ground no matter what or where I have to use my test light. And secondly, a stethoscope. I personally prefer one that both ears go into a single tube. I can't tell you the number of vacuum leaks that I have found with this tool. But I absolutely agree with his picks being essential in the diagnostic process.

I have a smoke machine that I use about twice a month, perfect for finding intake and evap leaks.

My entire shop is against having a scope… they think I’m wasting time using it for diagnostics. They rather I use the faster dart board method 😂

I'd make it 5 just to add a good smoke machine for evap. A lot of evap systems can be tricky as hell to diagnose, especially if you don't have the right software
