Joseph Smith clearly didn't hold the cupcake view as he happily married a whole bunch of women who were already married.

It’s crazy cause women are actually in fact not edible food, and if you lick one she will not become immediately malformed. This is because women are not made of frosting.

I remember these I was usually asked not to attend these lessons because I often ended up bringing up the abuse I endured at the hands of the priesthood holders. They tend to not like it when you point out their double standards.

Miracle of Forgiveness. The Church punished me age 16 for being SA'd by my father over 130x. No sacrament for me, horribly publicly shamed in Sacrament meeting and accused over the pulpit of having a "tawdry affair", it was printed in the local newspaper, kicked out of mom&stepdad's house and left at a crappy motel with a duffel bag, ended up homeless for a while - as a teenager. Doesn't matter to the church that he went to prison and others he abused testified against him too. I was given a copy of the book and told HE could be forgiven, but my soul was damned because... what Kimball said.

Ya gotta love that relief society voice.😂

I had a friend who was sexually assaulted at BYU-Idaho and zero criminal charges were ever filed, *and* she had to attend modesty classes with other survivors. The sexual hypocrisy in many churches, but specifically Mormonism, is f-ing revolting.

The fact women are compared to objects is a point in of itself, but that quote?? Holy shit. I couldn’t imagine living like that knowing I’m better off dead than “desecrated”

The most horrific thing about this kind of lesson is that it allows SA victims to be blamed for not essentially fighting to the death to ‘protect their virtue’.

Literally had this same lesson but in a southern baptist church, but with donuts. So traumatic, because I had already lost my virginity so I busted into tears later because I thought I was worthless. I hate what the church does to young impressionable girls.

The shame Elizabeth Smart felt when she was kidnapped and assaulted was a direct result of this type of lesson. She felt she was no longer worthy and was trash.

ETA: Elizabeth is an amazing survivor that has spoken out about these types of lessons. Chewed gum etc.

Oh no, I knew where this was going when she handed the cupcake -- my girlfriend grew up Southern Baptist and she said they did the same thing but with gum: "Here's a piece of gum. Now would you want already chewed gum? That's disgusting, right? So this gum is like your virginity, which you should save for your husband, because nobody wants something that's already been chewed." 🤢 Sexualizing children is SO, SO wrong.

I never really understood as a kid why people were bothered with these analogies. I had zero desire to do "impure things"

Turned out i was a lesbian lmao, i just didnt want to do it with guys

So once i realized that and left the church and reflected on these old beliefs, thats when i realized how horrifying they were

Just here saying Jesus defended the woman caught in adultery without mentioning anything about her "compromised virtue" and told the people persecuting her to leave and do a self reflection. Note how that doesn't involve comparing women to inatimate objects

As a mormon boy growing up in utah, dating utah girls was weird. This explains a lot.

I feel like when I gave up all boundaries I was taught about sex my personal boundaries got stronger.
The person I gave my virginity to ultimately was emotionally and sexually abusive to me. So was the person after that.
When I started viewing sex as "something fun consenting adults do" than I was able to have fun and it was no longer a way for others to hurt me.

I liked the lesson where they ripped up a dollar bill trying to make this same point and we were all like "Yeah i still want the dollar" because even a ripped dollar bill is still worth the same as a pristine dollar bill (excluding rare collectible ones) that purity lesson did not go how the teacher planned lol

I was 17 when I quit being Mormon. My best friend was a good girl Catholic. We both promised each other we weren’t waiting for marriage to lose our virginity. I’m glad I didn’t wait. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

We heard that at our Mennonite youth group as well. I remember saying I'd eat ANY cupcake, licked, un-licked, unfrosted, bit off of, leftover, stale, whatever. Who says "No" to a cupcake, "ya' know?

I wasn't my youth leaders favorite, lol

Slip away?! It's either given willingly or stolen violently. No in between.
