In this static equilibrium tilted beam and cable problem, we compute the tension in the cable and the force exerted by the hinge for a heavy tilted beam supported by a horizontal cable at the top and a hinge at the bottom.

We start by doing a torque analysis about the hinge point in order to compute the tension in the cable. Next, we use the fact that the net force in the y direction is zero, and we get the y component of the hinge force. Next, we use the fact that the net force in the x direction is zero, and we get the x component of the hinge force. Using the components of the force on the hinge, we find the magnitude and direction of the hinge force.

After computing the hinge force in polar form for the angled beam and cable physics problem, we verify our solution by computing the torque about the center of mass to confirm that the torques balance.

What should we do if there are 2 cables, one oriented on the bottom and one on the wall above the beam? (How would we setup equation)

shouldn't torque be the cos(angle) for perpendicular component of mg??
