It's not a question whether it works or not. That's the reality. If the US were in a same situation as Russia, they would have done the same and probably worse. They threaten to everyone without their interests being jeopardised. But Russia is not on their borders, they are on Russians. Let's not pretend we forgot how the US "defended" their national interests tens and tens thousands miles away of their home, invading other countries without any reason.
