Save the Children, with the School of International Futures, has just released a fantastic toolkit for our sector, pulling together a compendium of 12 strategic foresight tools and techniques which they have successfully adapted for their own and partner use. The Future is Ours is out now and immediately essential reading for anyone involved in strategy, planning and decision-making in our sector.

This guide walks you through the tools, why you would use which and when, with helpful facilitation notes. Key tips overall include: being open to a range of possible futures, pay attention to weak signals, practice foresight regularly, and integrate and embed insights!

JM Roche, Chief Researcher at Save the Children UK, presents what motivated him to put this compendium together, why he picked these particular tools, and how they can help strategists deliver new insights for to inform better organisational decision-making.

About the presenter 

José Manuel Roche is Chief Researcher at Save the Children UK where he leads on horizon scanning and strategic foresight. He has more than 20 years’ experience in international development policy research, horizon scanning and strategic foresight working for CSOs, governments and academia.

JM has held various research and advisory roles for international agencies (World Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, ECLAC, Asian Development Bank), international CSOs (Care, Oxfam, Save the Children and World Vision), national governments (Colombia, Venezuela, Egypt, Chile, Brazil, Indonesia, Butan and Malaysia), and in academia (Oxford Department of International Development).
