Apple Pencil charging should be included as a failure. Yes, the Apple Pencil has been successful in the market. However, having to plug it perpendicular into the iPad's Lightning port was both awkward and stupid.

Firewire should not be included as a failed product. It was actually successful in its time. Many video cameras used Firewire to transfer videos because USB at that time was way too slow. Early iPods also used Firewire. For example, Firewire 400 from 1995 supported theoretical speeds as high as 400 megabits per second, whereas USB 1.x in 1996 only went as fast as 12 mbit/s. Firewire 800 in 2002 supported speeds as high as 3, 200 mbit/s, while USB only surpassed that with USB 3.0 in 2008 at 5, 000 mbit/s.

Correction: Firewire was an open IEEE standard. However, several companies owned patents on the technology required to implement Firewire. Apple owned the second-highest number of Firewire patents; Sony owned the most. So when third party companies wanted to implement Firewire in hardware, they had to pay these many companies, of which Apple was only one.
