The Wii U is Secretly Nintendo's Best Console EVER

Today I'll be telling you all about why I love the Wii U (through modding it of course). With custom firmware installed on this thing, it becomes a force to be reckoned with. Everything from custom virtual console games to native gamecube and wii support is covered in this video. So if you've got a wii u laying around, it's time to dust it off and mod that thang.

As someone who’s been defending the Wii U since launch, It took a while but I’m glad more people are starting to appreciate it..even if it’s to play older Gamecube games on. The HDMI out for those games is amazing!

I bought a used Wii U at GameStop for 70 dollars with everything bundled and a free copy of tropical freeze in 2017 when everyone was trashing it but I could see it's potential. I now have virtually every Nintendo game from NES to Wii U at my fingertips and I love it

“Wii U had a lack of games back then”

I’d argue. The game library was pretty great even though it was initially kind of slow for the first few months. I’d even as far to say that it’s original game library is better than that of the Switch and I’d even recommend buying a Wii U just to play those games for A 1/5TH THE PRICE on a better controller, better UI, and the added benefit of home-brew.

In my opinion, my biggest reason why I like the WiiU so much is how much personality and so much features that the Nintendo Switch lacks. Remember the last time Nintendo announced that Miiverse would be on the Nintendo Switch? I don't.

Infact, there's so much features in the WiiU that it actually feels like a place/environment.

the wii u will always have a soft spot in my heart. it was the way i was introduced to Pikmin and playing the Wii versions of 1 and 2 as well as Pikmin 3 was a huge part of my childhood

The Wii U Game Pad feels very comfortable to hold. It’s well balanced with well placed analogue sticks, the right one is above the buttons button where it should. There’s even a proper “d+pad”, plus the touch pad stylus inputs work flawlessly even if being older technology. The game pad simply seems ergonomically correct and was very well thought out and designed. The pads user interface is spot on and flows smoothly with zero lagging unlike what we received on the Switch. In fact it’s the form, fit, user interface and eShop on the Switch that feels like a step backwards and those who have both know exactly what I’m talking about. The Wii U isn’t without it’s own shortcomings as the twi piece design is rather cumbersome and game pad range is appropriately 20’ from the console itself. The Switch has poor analogue sticks and the right one is below the buttons making them almost inaccessible or at the very least very uncomfortable. Holding the switch is flat out uncomfortable. Switch only win over the Wii U is not having a the two piece console & game pad design and a better screen technology. IMO Nintendo got it half right with the Wii U but not quite half right with the Switch. If Nintendo would place the right analogue stick above the buttons so you don’t have to reach over it and give us a proper D+pad it’s be half right but that Switch user interface is awful and navigation feels bla. Switch “eShop” is also poorly conceived and the funny thing is that and both the Switch interface and eShop can be easily updated but Nintendo seems to either be lazy or not wanting to admit the Wii U was actually superior on these fronts. Here’s to hoping Nintendo can mix what was great on the Wii U with the hybrid nature of the Switch because the hybrid thing really was about the only advantage over the Wii U when they release their next console.

This is a certified Scott The Woz approved title, also now I'm considering buying a Wii U

I modded all three of my Wii U's and backed up the NAND. That is something everyone should do now with all the reports of people pulling out their Wii Us from storage just to find it bricked with no NAND backup to fix it. I do have a GameCube w/ Digital A/V and HDMI adapter on the same TV. The GC does look good but the Wii U is very sharp. Of course both can do widescreen hacks that make it even better. I use the GC /w GBA player for GB/GBC/GBA. For Wii/Wii U to GC controller adapter, I'm using a MayFlash adapter from Amazon that plugs into the WiiMote. Works with both wired and Wavebird controllers and the analog triggers work like analog.

I have a Switch, and Wii U, and I vastly prefer Wii U due to access to almost all past nintendo games. It's the best.

Definitely going to dust off my Wii U and try this out getting really tired of seeing my favorite GameCube games sell for crazy prices and the risk of the disc scratching

i always thought it was really curious that nintendo didn't advertise virtual console as the wii u's primary feature. it had all the features required to allow people to play literally thirty years worth of nintendo games and afaik this was never mentioned in any advertising. imagine a commercial following somebody who grows up with nintendo consoles from the NES on... and then they get a wii u, and have access to games from *eight* nintendo consoles on one system. if they had taken this tack i really do think the wii u would have been successful.

I recently bought a wii u to mod and I've been loving the convenience of it. Being able to play games on the tv while also being able to just grab the gamepad and play portably is super useful, and the range doesn't bother me at all as i rarely play games out of my house. Playing GBA games is great, and I completely agree that the gamepad feels just like a huge GBA.
Keep up the great content!

Coming from a person who has spent a chunk of money on physical retro games here and there, it's not about the concept of giving my money to the devs... obviously that's not happening. It's about the collecting. Don't get me wrong, I emulate too, but I like having a shelf of carts and disc's.

Also, I take exception to you pointing out my sweaty stupidity... but clearly not to the nerd part.

I keep my WiiU stock. I had it when it still was active and I loved the community and especially the Miiverse app. I also loved the fact you could open the internet browser when stuck in a game and it would open the relevant YT vid or internet page giving you help and tips. - Let's not forget the WiiU PRO controller, that thing is a beast and only need charging once a month. There's actually more exclusive WiiU titles than one might think. I'm a fan of the Switch, but I much prefer the WiiU. I wish the WiiU era had lasted longer and I only got to enjoy it by the time it had been out for a couple of years🤩

Truly agree that Wii U deserved better. But I also think that Nintendo should have marketed Wii U way better/clever. And have GameCube support out of the box.

I had a Wii U back when I first came out but had to sell it because I moved countries. Just re bought a Wii U on EBay for like $160. Game pad console and everything really good condition (black 32GB model). Also had Mario kart 8 downloaded on the console too! Also bought a few things in the Eshop and will before the Eshop closes… also bought Yoshi’s Wooly world too! I love the Wii U. I already modded it. Haven’t done too much with it though. My Wii is already fully loaded with everything … (GameCube and Wii games plus VC and can emulate everything Nes-N64) so I already have that.

Whenever people say the console feels lost to time because of the Switch I just say that the Switch isn’t going to last forever. Yes the Switch sold a lot more but do you think that people in 10 years are going to say the Switch makes the Wii U outdated? Because by then both consoles will be considered history and worth collecting for. However I’m glad we have ports on Switch in the meantime so you can get them for like 1/5 the price on Wii U. Not to mention the PS4 has many of it’s games on PS5 yet no one says that makes the PS4 bad so people are just hating the Wii U for literally zero reason whatsoever.

I loved the Wii u since day 1. Such an underrated console. Now with all the enhancements it's my favorite system. Having the potential to play every game up to the Wii u from Nintendo is amazing. It's the gift that keeps giving.

Play your Wii U and 3ds! Hi all! If you love the Wii U and 3ds please PLAY them daily or at least weekly because your play data is still given to Nintendo. If we all play our systems regularly Nintendo will at least know how much this wonderful community of ours loves the Wii U and 3ds. This is one great thing we can all do easily to support the systems we love! Spread this message to as many people as you can so our big happy Wii U and 3ds family has fun forever! We all were and are a part of something special. Thank you all! ^^
