Mr Rogers started to feed the fish on his set during the eppisodes after a little girl wrote to him worried that the fish were hungry. He made a point to make sure to feed them on camera from then on.

Another good fact: Mr. Rogers was a strong surpporter for equeal rights during after Martin Luther King's assaination, Mr. Rogers introduced Officer Clemmons and this was a year after the show first aired. I haven't seen any of the show but I know that he was Mr. Roger's equal and this at the time it was, it was very risky and could have cost him his show but he did it anyway as a way to show people we can be better then we were then. It shows he was a truely loving and caring person and I wish I knew of him sooner *silent tears*

The video of his speech to congress is just under 7 minutes of pure magic. He spoke to a group of grumpy old men who just wanted to slash a budget and after 6 minutes they were so impressed the not only approved the budget for public broadcast, but increased it a few years later. He was a beacon for children, but in a brief moment on capital hill he made believers out of grown ups as well. This was Mr. Rogers, the man we all love and think of fondly.

I remember being on the road with several co-workers when we heard about Mr. Rogers' death. Someone said that if Jesus ever needed an assistant, Mr. Rogers would be a perfect assistant for Jesus. We were blessed to have Mr. Rogers as our TV Neighbor.
