Every time I see new ideas for locks I think of the "bump free locks" about ten years ago. Everyone thought they were great - including me - and went out and bought these locks that people were not likely to break into. Then they showed video after video of very young people some below ten years of age using toy hammers to break into them in about ten seconds.

Would not use any battery operated locks on any exterior door where the temperature is below 32 degrees F (0 degrees Celsius) like in places that experience cold winters.
The batteries will die in a very short time if they even work.
WiFi and batteries are a sure way to get broken into easily.

Excellent information. I think the most convenient is first one...fingerprints....no phone to monkey with.

What I would really like is one with a magnetic internal locking mechanism that didn't require a motor, and worked by the app, over wi-fi, or a fob I could keep in my pocket. That way, doors would lock as a resident left a room, or was in the room, and let it to manual with the fob, then it would unlock as anyone with the app on their phone or the fob in their pocket approached - unless the person in the room had set it to manual.
Do you know of anything like that for interior doors? I just hate the motorized ones.

For a video like this it would have been nice if you had provided battery life info. Like how long does the device last until you have to change it?

Baldwin makes attractive smart locks that use Bluetooth. Unfortunately, the connections are a bit flaky and don't always work. These days there are ways to make the low energy Bluetooth code work well, but they haven't done it.

I think I liked the first one on the garage door the most. However, a shame it cannot be used on an outside door...

How do you stop anyone just taking out batteries and drilling out the whole lock?
