If you are experiencing cursor jumping when typing on a laptop this video may help. Most laptop touch pads can easily get accidentally brushed by the palms of the hands while typing resulting in involuntary movement, clicking or selection of the pointer and cursor. Just wanted to tell you that I was really frustrated by the jumping cursor problem. When I started watching your video, I thought that your fix wasn't for me because I don't touch my pad when I type. However, I thought perhaps the fix might work anyway for some reason. I installed the fix and it completely fixed my problem. It must have something to do with my hands being close enough to the pad to cause the problem. Thanks a lot..

Hero, just want to say thank you. I am having to use my dads laptop again. I can’t afford my own. I didn’t want to borrow his again as it was a nightmare to type on. He always disagrees as he is a single finger typer and just doesn’t believe me. Ihave recently become unemployed and needed to create cv send job applications off and as everything is on line now do a covering letter for each one. It takes ages for each one. Then I thought why don’t I try to stop the jumping. I had seen a couple of videos to no avail. Yours did the trick it was concise and real. Thanks again, I feel less stressful now as I can just get on with it. Honestly I am so chuffed x

I found a solution that worked for me (Win10 on a laptop). Go to Settings, Devices, select Mouse&Touchpad. Scroll down and you'll see the option "To help prevent the cursor from accidentally moving while you type, turn off taps or change the delay before taps work". I changed it to "Long delay". Boom! This annoying problem has been solved.

In my case, my touchpad cursor just went crazy in the middle of the day. After checking the settings, running a virus check and reinstalling updated drivers there was still no change.
Last resort, I CLEANED THE TOUCHPAD...No alcohol handy so I used a drop of dish liquid on the green scrubber side of a dish sponge lightly soapy with water and wringed out before applying, and towelled-edged my tp control bars to prevent seepage. With no power & on a flat surface, apply with little pressure and rub the pad in small circular motions. Don't get a lot of sud accumulation and prevent water from dripping in the creases of the keyboard too. Then dry with preferably a microfibre dust-free towel. Allow to air dry for 5 minutes before using. After 6 mins - better than ever.
The moral...start with the cleaning. The amount of micro skin oil buildup, dirt and dust aside from the food spillage is shocking.

This is a problem that is hitting me hard while I am typing my text as it is jumping here and there quite often so that I cannot concentrate and need to retype often. Now using touch freeze I am finding, it is gone completely.

Oy! I was so frustrated with my mouse jumping as I typed. But now, I'm typing after downloading Touchfreeze and my cursor no longer jumps around. Thank you GuruBrew. Appreciate your advice.

I purchased a Hewlett Packard Spectre laptop one year ago.  At the time, having researched it and other laptops thoroughly, I was aware that critical reviews had identified the trackpad as excessively large.  But they did not mention what problems it can lead to.  This trackpad is 5.5" wide and 2.5" tall It covers a full 1/2 of the space beneath the keyboard.  Having now dealt with the cursor skipping problem for a year or more, I feel that it is probably most likely the result of palms contacting the trackpad - and how could they not; the palms start on the trackpad!  But it can be tricky to know for sure what is going on, because I type fast, so things go berserk too fast to see it happen.  Anyway, I would be very curious if a high rate of HP Spectre users are having this problem.  Where could we get information on that?
