👍 Yep… I just discovered a cracked-split air intake hose on my wife’s 2013 Nissan Pathfinder,
We just replaced the transmission & the suv has been running like crap since… Wife described it over revving - then no power.
Sadly, we’ve had it into a local reputable mechanic shop a few times, and he’s replaced the map sensor, then later the map sensor wiring.
Frustrated & afraid to get stranded,
Wife has been Truck my old truck last couple weeks…
So I finally decided to take a look at it myself today.
I’m no mechanic; but I work on my trucks & do many mechanically inclined projects,
But generally try to avoid the foreign cars as I’m unfamiliar with them.
So this morning I dissembled the covers, air box, air filter, cleaning as I go… begin to examine every hose visually & running my hand around them with engine running - looking and listening for a vacuum leak,
As the car threw 3-4 codes,
3 of which indicates a vacuum leak,
Anyway sure enough the under side of the hose- boot had a split 3-4” wide.
Hoping this will fix the issues when I pick up the new hose tomorrow.

In case anyone is curious, on Honda Pilot, after recently changing my air filter, a badly split intake hose (after MAF, before MAP) forced a rich condition which began wasting fuel. 15-16mpg instead of 19 and my oxygen sensors began coding because the cats couldn’t deal with the excess fuel. Anyways, as expected, after replacing the hose I immediately got a high MAP voltage code because the car was suddenly starving for air that it had gotten used to getting. The computer just took some time idling and driving to relearn the new optimal ratios.

Dave all your videos are good. Wife has a 99 accord 3.0. Checked it not long ago when I changed the front engine mount but think I'll check it tomorrow and order and replace it just for the age of the vehicle. It's always garaged with 60000 miles try to keep it like new. Hope all is good with you and family Artie 👍👍👍

A chain shop franchise cracked mine during a starter replacement. I didn't know till months later when I was replacing my air filter. It was a 2006 Honda Accord 4 cylinder, the starter buried under the plenum which is attached to the throttle body and this air tunnel/tube. When my other identical Honda needed a starter, I replaced it myself. Never trust a fancy sign of a chain shop, they're magnet for underqualified mechanics.

looking relaxed there Big Dog! I wonder why that is? Good tip. I've always known to be careful when I change out the air filter but I didn't know why. Ta-Dah! Now, I do.

Thanks for this. I went to look at my car and my hose had a hole as well. I just recently got a newer engine and I guess that hose wasn't changed.

Hi, great video. May I ask what is the purpose of the 2 holes on both sides of the intake air tube? I believe there are 2 hoses need to be connected...what is the function of those hoses?

It only shows up on a MAP engine if the leak is after the throttle plate. Great video!

Hey big dog. I cleaned my throttle body on my 8th gen civic. Ever since the idle surges after a few seconds on start up and the idle rpm is about 1100 until engine reaches operating temperature and then it goes to about 700
