Exploring a Subtropical Forest on UK South Coast

Nestled into a valley on the mild south-west coastline of the UK is a verdant forest packed full of plants from locations around the world. Plants usually considered tender are planted outdoors and reach proportions unattainable by most. You'll find permanent outdoor displays containing plants from Brazil, Australia, Madeira, New Zealand, India, China and so much more.

Abbostbury subtropical gardens is a fantastic subtropical garden that will make you feel as though you have transported to a jungle. It's open to visitors and is dog friendly so pop in for some garden ideas and planting inspiration for your own tropical style garden.

I have Kirengoshoma growing in a pot and every year, by the time the flowers come, the leaves are in a terrible state. I believe it is an acid lover so i can't put it in the ground here. Any advice to keep the leaves looking nice? I very nearly gave it away this year but i couldn't as i have had it for a long time and never seen it for sale since i got it from a nursery i worked at.

Do you hsve any tips on cordylines, i noticed all around dorset there was loads of cordylines and some had very thin tall trunks but mine is very big in diametre and about 2ft of trunk with the leaves topping sround 13ft.

Im thinking of just chopping it down and buying a new one thats smaller.
