lol @ 0:13 -- will it take 20 minutes to run the cleaning cycle three times? or will each cycle take 20 minutes?

after running a cleaning cycle, do we turn it back to ice, wait for a few seconds then switch it back?

“And then run the rinse cycle. The End.”. Narrator: we’re not going to tell you how to run a rinse cycle.

Is the side tank connected during this process as well? Or at both hoses attached on the back of the main unit? Thank you.

We just realized we have a significant mold issue in our machine. We cleaned out the filter and unscrewed the top and cleaned out the white bin where there was a lot of mold. How can we prevent this in the future? Also, how do we get the lines totally free from mold. We took them off and ran them through hot water, reconnected them and are currently doing an 18 soak with vinegar.Any further tips?

I have an opal one icemaker. Do you use cold vinegar or hot vinegar to run this cleaning process? I’ve seen instructions for both.

Do you have to use vinegar? Can you use descaling solution?

My ice maker has white dusty looking particles coming down with water during cleaning and ice making. The ice doesn’t look dirty or taste bad, what exactly is this?

When I put it in the cleaning mode the yellow light blinks but nothing else happens. It just sits there.

Do we leave the vinegar in the reservoir for the 18 hours?

I tried this and my motor blew up and shot oil into the water 😢had to get a new opal 2.0 now I’m using dedicated ice machine cleaner so far so good.

Hello I have the older model Opal and all of a sudden the water that comes down the chute is pouring into the ice tray when it kicks back on. Normally the water would cascade down the chute and run down the back wall of the interior. Now it's more like a solid stream that pours right into the ice bin. How can I fix this?

Undiluted vinegar...? Is that the same as distilled white vinegar w 9% acidity?

How often do you have to do this if you use distilled water?

Hmm. Don’t have that switch on the back. How do you do this in other models that have the exact same name?

@GE Appliances In the long run it's a great unit to own if you like the small (soft) nugget ice found at Sonic and other restaurants!
However, if the unit's cleaning can be successfully done by using vinegar soakings (18 hours.) and the 1 Tsp. of bleach added to a few quarts of water...WHY do GE sell the Opal Cleaning solution for so much money ($30, 4-oz, bottle)?
When my family saw how much the cleaning solution cost for the small sized bottle. They didn't want to invest in the Opal Ice Maker! They decided it was way cheaper to go to Sonics and purchase a large bag of ice at the Drive-Thru window for only $3.29! ;-O
I must say that the vinegar (for descaling) suggestion is IDEAL because distilled vinegar doesn't cost too much, however, that GE OPAL ICE MAKER "CLEANING" SOLUTION is way to expensive, especially for the size of that little bottle (4-oz.)!!!
Come on GE, PLEASE give the consumer a break...the ice maker unit cost as much as a small refrigerator ($500-600., depending on where it's purchased)...then the maintenance cleaning solution cost $30.00 (4-oz.) and must be use frequently, depending on usage, water condition, etc.
Now, I see "why" my family passed on purchasing one of them.
That retail price for the cleaning solution is WAY TO HIGH!

I only use distilled water in mine, why would it still need descaling once a month? That’s also a lot of vinegar and water waste once a month 😮

This ice machine is such a pain to clean. It gets so gross. One thing they don’t tell you is how to clean the tubes. I’ve had nice mold buildup in those.
