Have you ever wondered: "what are dystonic tics?" Well, this video is about the 3 subcategories of motor tics - dystonic, clonic, and tonic tics - but this one is dedicated specifically to what is a dystonic tic? Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorders cause people to make involuntary movements and sounds known as tics, but what is a dystonic tic? Watch to find out!!

As a girl with Tourette's, I would love to spread awareness and education about my disorder, as I feel it is quite misunderstood in today's society. The media has made it out to be a swearing disorder only, which is far from true. I hope this video will educate you on Tourette Syndrome and tic disorders! Life with Tourettes can be difficult, but just know that we're the same as everyone else...except for the fact we tic like clocks! (:

Thanks for watching!

Blimey, I hadn't even heard of these tic subcategories before. Shows what medical folk knew in the '90s(!) I've had the awkward posture-holding ones for the past 3 years, but in childhood they were more so the repetitive motions and tensing up. Once again, your content really lives up to the educational side! :-)

I’ve had tics since I was a kid. I think it’s a symptom of my adhd or autism. I never knew it had subcategories though so it was frustrating explaining 😭. I often disguise it as stretching even though I’m just prolonging a tensing/twist movement. Thank you for explaining as it makes it easier understanding seeing it visually.

Hi Ticcing Together! It is great to find your videos. My girlfriend has Tourette’s, so I have begun doing some research. I wanted to ask you: is it possible for dystonic or blocking tics to last permanently? (I am not confident in my terminology yet so I apologize if I get it wrong.) On occasion she experiences arm locking or full body locking where she is unable to move for 8+ hours. There is a concern she has expressed where one day a prolonged blocking tic may occur and the muscle will permanently lock. I know this severe concern is most likely not going to occur, but I cannot find any sources that can confirm or deny its possibility. I have read anecdotes from folks with Tourette’s who say that this may instead be dystonia or FND, but I really do not know and it is difficult to get into quick contact with a medical professional! Was wondering if you would happen to know more - thanks so much.

I was wondering, is it "normal" that everytime I see the words stretch/stretching (or similar concept) I stretch myself? xD Or is that because I have a stretching tic that is getting triggered?
Cause I stretch all the time, I even have what I call my "streching crisis". But I only recently considered that maybe it was a tic
