Trico Wiper Motor Lube & Test - 1940 Nash

Trico vacuum wiper motor off my 1940 Nash Ambassador Eight. Seized up, unused for many years. Getting ready for a rainy winter so thought I would do a little more than RainX on my chop top flat glass. Last winters driving had a few hairy close calls, caused by other drivers of course.
A little cleaning and lubrication and this made in USA motor worked like a champ.

Thanks for looking.

I have a 1953 Hudson that uses a Trico wiper motor. I was once told that neetsfoot oil is recommended for the motor as the internal paddle is made of leather.

This works great. I did this to my 1950 Mercury. Back in business.

I should have watched this BEFORE I took apart the motor from my '52 International truck. Very helpful video. Thanks

Something I preach all the time.. Vacuum Wipers get a Bum Rap mainly from being neglected for many years... A little service goes a long way.

Thanks for this man, I've got a wiper motor on my 55 Ford that works but it's too weak to  move the wipers fully. I'm betting this'll do the trick, beats having to tear the thing apart.

I'm going to try that on my 57 Mercury and hopefully it will work.

Yes. MMO should work fine. This fix wont last forever but It should last the season. Best of luck.

I go good results by taking it apart, cleaning and lubing everything. However, I think the approach in the video, using the brake fluid, would work just as good and take less time.

Never use brake fluid. People forget that air is drawn into the vacuum wiper and eventually makes its way to the inlet manifold when the wiper is running. Any residual brake fluid will be drawn in with it. Brake fluid can be extremely damaging to the engine internals.

Have a similar pump on my Ford Fairlane 1955.When I remove the 2 linkages pump works fine. When connected pump moves wiper arms only half way !
No apparent leakage.Any help?Thank you.Good video.

This was very helpful.  Have the same wiper motor in a '48 Chevy truck. Looking forward to trying your fix.  Do you think that Marvel Mystery Oil would work? (Since some would get pulled into the manifold.)
