What is a Bot?

Bots are automated software, designed by human programmers to do tasks on the web. Bots have been around since the beginning of the Internet. As a recent New York Times article says, bots are getting smarter and easier to create. As bots become more convincing, users and researchers need to be careful what we are being convinced of.

This makes me hate technology because it's like we are being manipulated. Why can't we just make comments without worrying that we are being spied on? We post comments as a way of showing how we feel about an issue. But others see our comments & start attacking us because our opinions differ from them. This is so disgusting.

I feel like this video is lacking impartiality. What about web crawling/SEO for example to help smaller businesses get more recognition and move up in search results? Or optimization that helps so many apps and businesses with customer service, especially for people who have a hard time navigating a website and bots point them in the right direction.
