How is a root canal treatment done? When is it necessary?

This treatment is necessary when the nerve of the tooth is irreversibly affected by caries, trauma, or wear, etc. As the caries progresses, the damage caused to the tooth may be more or less superficial, meaning it may only affect the external layer of the tooth (the enamel), but may continue until it reaches the internal tissues such as the dentine and finally the dental pulp (the nerve of the tooth). Depending on the advance of the disease (its size and depth), symptoms may appear ranging from slight pain or discomfort, through to severe, incapacitating pain accompanied by abscesses and even fever. Generally, the closer the caries is to the dental pulp (the nerve), the more painful and damaging it is.

There are other causes that may affect the nerve of the tooth, such as traumas (impacts caused by sporting and traffic accidents, children's accidents, etc) which also cause pain and require immediate treatment.

Finally, and no less important, are destructive non-bacterial processes (wearing of the teeth). These may be physiological (due to the patient’s age) or pathological, caused by bad habits such as overly aggressive brushing, using highly erosive toothpaste, onychophagy (biting your nails), or bruxism (grinding and clenching your teeth). In many cases, the loss of tooth tissue is so severe that it may affect the nerve, causing different clinical symptoms such as sensitivity (felt when eating or drinking cold things, sugary foods, acidic foods, etc.), pain and abscesses.

First all infected material is removed from the tooth. After that, a series of files of different lengths and widths are used to remove all the infected material from the roots.
The area is irrigated with disinfectant liquid and dried. At last, the roots and the inside of the tooth are sealed with different materials.
Once finished, the infection will be slowly reabsorbed until it disappears.

There are cases where the destruction of the tooth is so big that once the root canal treatment is done, the tooth gets very weak, so it is necessary to make a crown. For doing so, the tooth is prepared, and some molds are taken to manufacture the crown that will be cemented to the tooth.
In other cases, the destruction of the tooth is bigger, so it is necessary to place pins inside the tooth to give the crown more support and stability.

I too had this done a week ago!

I was in so much pain I ended up in the emergency room. I was TERRIFIED knowing I had to get nerves removed, and in the end it was a walk in the park!

I did tell the dentist I was extremely anxious about it and he was super reassuring! He used anesthesia and I didn’t feel a thing throughout! If it ever got too uncomfortable, he stopped and added some more anesthesia just in case. It was over in the blink of an eye!

I’m so glad I got this done! I’m sure many of us are scared of this, but you’ve got this! No need to be scared!

Just got this done literally one hour ago. I had a back tooth done which is more complicated than the front teeth. There was no pain during the procedure but a lot of discomfort. Some pain afterwards. The doctor says expect it to be three or four days before the pain goes completely away. Not a pleasant experience but not a terrible one either.

For those who are wondering that root canal might be painful. Then no it won't even hurt a bit. So the dentist first give you injection of anesthesia and during this you may feel a little pain. But after this the whole procedre would not hurt. Go ahead for a root canal it doesn't hurt. I got my today and going to have another tomorrow. Tbh I was also kinda scared and nervous before root canal but it went well. But it might feel uncomfortable. (btw I am 14 years old )

Medical Problems can contribute to a tooth cavity by causing acid from your stomach to flow back into your mouth. Similarly, bulimia increases the risk of a tooth cavity when the teeth are exposed to stomach acid during frequent vomiting. In addition, some types of cancer treatment that expose the head and neck to radiation can promote a tooth cavity by changing the makeup of the saliva to promote increased bacterial growth.

I had to endure agonising pain from my tooth. Kept me up all night being unable to sleep due to the radiating pain.. But today I finally got this procedure done. My dentist was really a nice person and made sure I felt no pain while getting this procedure done. Hoping the pain never comes back again!

Just got finished my root canal today. It wasn't painful because of the anesthesia. The dentist told me the 2nd session will be scheduled in 3-4 days and will see if I can't feel more pain anymore while doing the operation.

I had a root canal treatment done yesterday. There was no pain at all during the procedure, just alot of discomfort because you have to keep your mouth open for like 45 minutes... Now 1 day later it hurts just a little bit when chewing something hard with that teeth, but nothing compared to the pain before the procedure!!

I had this done to my front tooth 😬
It didn’t actually hurt at all it just felt suuuuper uncomfortable when they put the needle. I recommend wearing headphones and blasting loud music if you don’t want to hear the noises of the machines. 👍🏽

Namaste
Some advantages of salt water mouth rise
1.) Clears mucous membrane
2.) Soothes mouth sores
3.) Helps maintain an alkaline environment (PH >=7) { This also means that we must avoid acidic drinks which drop the PH level below 7)
4.) Helps maintain isotonicity leading to rejuvenation of soft tissues
Thanks

I guess i’m gonna tell you my experience with this procedure

I was very nervous to get this done cause i didn’t know exactly what was going to happen. When i went in the office put a jelly type thing on my cheek no pain at all, then they got the numbing stuff (my bad i don’t know exactly what they are called💀) it was in a needle but i didn’t feel a thing when they did it because they put that gel on it im terrified of needles but they kept me calm the entire time. Then they put the numbing medicine on my gums I was kinda worried cause they didn’t put that gel on and when i asked they said it was only a little pinch. I did feel something but it didn’t hurt that much it was just a little pinch like they said.

After that they began to drill and all that stuff no pain at all just pressure it was loud though but I had music playing I also recommend music to make you calm. There was a smell while they were drilling kinda like burning rubber it was a awful smell but nothing crazy

They kept me calm the entire time asking if I was okay and telling me that i was doing fine that helped me a lot.

When they were done i was not in pain but my mouth was VERY numb i did have a little trouble talking but it wasn’t anything crazy. They gave me an antibiotic and a pain medication

I did start to feel pain after I took a nap and woke up. I’m gonna say it now i’m a crier so of course i cried but not like full blown tears i was just so uncomfortable, numb and hungry so the pain wasn’t helping. They told me to only eat soft foods because i would probably bite my cheek or tongue, I did end up biting a little so i’m kinda sore now but i’m ok.

I’m going to say this so y’all can understand ASK QUESTIONS ‼️ asking questions about the procedure might help you prepare for what’s going to happen please please PLEASE ask questions

I was very afraid but it was not a bad experience thank you and byeee
