HOW TO MAKE ONIGIRI | Japanese Rice Balls

Onigiri is a Japanese rice ball wrapped in nori (Seaweed). Frank and I became obsessed with it on our trip to Japan because it's such a tasty yet easy breakfast item. You can stuff it with a variety or fillings but we often go for spicy tuna since it is quick and easy.

In this video I'll show you how I prepare the rice and filling, and how to assemble these tasty rice balls. Links below for the Nori and Mold I used.

Not gonna lie I watched your video mostly for the first 23 seconds as I had no idea how to unwrap a rice ball from my local shop. Was too embarrassed to ask the employees either. Thanks!!!

Typically the tuna filling is made with Kewpie Mayo the main difference being that it's made with only egg yolk. If you can't find that and can find Blue Plate that's also a very simple all yolk recipe mayo that is a bit closer than something like Kraft, Helmans or Dukes.

I just used these papers to make me some myself. And man, they were so good. I have some left in the fridge for later because i know i’m going to be craving them later.

I have trouble getting the nori, like how you initially wrapped the nori. What do you think is an excellent way to do that?

How do you store in the fridge without them getting dried out? My rice always dries out and gets hard in the fridge

What else could I put in a rice ball instead of mayo and tuna as I don’t like it could I put sausage in there or bacon or something else as not sure and I’m from the uk and I’ve never bought seafood or ever had seafood in my life so would have no idea where to buy it

I recommend 2 tpbs of soy sauce... It's too much soy sauce... 😅
