Can I turn this into a dress by just continuing the slip stitches on a longer chain?

You know, I love crocheting because you can get into an easy rhythm with most stitch patterns. The same cannot be said for slip stitch patterns. I the affect but I'd be far to angry doing something like this 😭😭😭

I'm extremely new to crochet but I'm curious if you could just continue the panel, just do it opposite while slip stitching things together on the way like the shoulder and other side, this avoiding having to "sew" and it's just one piece. I'm sure there's a reason that doesn't work. Either way I love this and will be attempting it!
