I understand the basic principle, but I would love to see an actual calculation which shows how you find the correct base current for a given emitter current. Also it's not clear to me if these examples rely on the transistor being part of one circuit with the same voltage applied across the base and collector. For my purpose, and i expect many viewers will run into this as well, the desired emitter voltage and hence the collector voltage is far higher than the base voltage. Additionally I'm left wondering if it's a requirement, for an NPN transistor, that the ground of the base and collector current remains the same.

how do you calculate the resistor for the base? and what does it take to get more current through the transistor? larger or smaller resistor? and what I don't get yet. is if they are current controlled. what about the volts? what is the voltage requirements to control the base. I understand MOSFETs a lot better. but I need a transistor to use as a gate driver. so I need to learn how they work. I'm also self taught. and very new to this also! but great video.
