How to Fix Drywall in a Bathroom or Any Other Room (Step-by-Step) -- by Home Repair Tutor

Learning how to fix drywall will save you mucho dinero. Seriously, I've learned my lesson.

Today you'll see how to fix a ceiling and cut down on the repair time. I've got several tips that'll hopefully help you with your project.

The first step is to measure the thickness of your old drywall or plaster.

Turn off any electricity that's in the ceiling. In this tutorial I had to remove a recessed light that was smack in the middle of the repair.

Measure the length and width of the hole and cut a piece of drywall that'll cover these dimensions.

Place the new drywall piece over the hole and trace it with a marker.

Cut the drywall in the ceiling to size and voila!! You have a perfect new piece of drywall that'll fill in the hole.

In the video you'll see that I had to add extra framing. I know some will think this was a waste but this is my preference.

If you're working alone it's not a bad idea to add one screw to each corner.

Then you can hoist the drywall (depending on it's size) up to the ceiling and screw it in place.

Because the ceiling in this video had texture I used mesh tape instead of paper tape...again, some prefer paper but mesh is better IMO for textured surfaces.

Check out the rest of the video to see how to fix drywall, especially a drywall ceiling

I am really wanting this so bad to repair the dry wall on my ceiling!!! I am 67 year old woman that has never done anything like this before. But you have made this look so easy and you don't know how much I appreciate this video for showing me the steps to take!!!! My husband has had a liver transplant and has Ataxia that causes him to shake all over his body. I used to NEVER have to worry about doing anything like this. But we aren't able to pay a repair man to do it from our limited income with medical bills, medicine and 2 hour trips to Dr appointments!!! So I'm on my own to do what needs to be done. But watching you, I feel a lot better. Just hope I'm strong enough. But I'm going to give it all I've got that's for sure!!! Thank you for helping someone like me out of a very bad situation!!! Cause as simple as you were able to show the steps to take, I'm going for it. I know I'll need you again so I'll be looking you up for other help. Thank you and may God Bless you!!!!

I have been doing carpentry works at home and at my children's homes (got 4 married kids). I am currently using a regular screw driver. At one time I was able to borrow an impact driver from a friend to test the difference between the two and noticed that impact drivers is effortless and much faster especially when your putting up multiple panels. I wish I can have one of this especially now that I'm retiree. Thanks much.

Jeff,
This driver would be super handy for me. My family just moved into a home that's almost 100 years old. I have several projects on my to-do list, including painting, fixing holes in drywall, plumbing, and electrical. I also want to build a small shed in the backyard to house the yard equipment and possibly some of the kids toys. Your videos have helped me out a ton! Thanks!!

You took the mystery out of how to it right. I'm not really that handy, but now I know what to look for when hiring a professional. I agree the Milwaukee drill is awesome and plan to look at more Home Repair Tutorials in future. Very well done video and the speaker is very effective, making it fun to watch.

I just discovered your videos. I love them! They are super helpful. I love that I can rewind whenever I need to--sometimes right in the middle of my project. I need that tool! I recently acquired a tax foreclosure property and I'm a DIYer. The tool would make drywall installs, 2x2, and 2x4 framing so much easier for me. I'm often working after 5 on this house -after work. An impact driver like this would make working easier and something I crave for. I hope you consider me the favorite for getting that Milwaukee. Thanks for your easy to follow videos. They have given me, a girly girl the courage to just do it. Guess what? I am just doing it and it feels great to look at work that I did myself learning all the way.
