I don't understand HOW they could be more advanced than we are today, and not have foreseen, predicted, and prevented any kind of global catastrophe though... Minimally left to somewhere else safe on the planet, left the planet, etc. 1000 other things come to mind instead of 'they just got wiped out by xyz'

For me it’s the fact that these structures have so much similarity in design all over the world and we’re crafted around the same time as well. From a purely analytical standpoint, it is far more likely that the world was connected back then and that communication flowed freely than it is that all these similarities popped up out of coincidence. Normally, the easiest answer is the right answer. If the world was that connected than they were more advanced than we give them credit.
