The only way career choices can be generalizable is if all incomes are the same. Choosing a career that pays less than others violates rationality.

punching somebody violates the categorical imperative. maximizing utility given no-scarcity does not violate the categorical imperative. Maximizing utility under conditions of scarcity (ie reality) does violate the categorical imperative. Sloppy thinking.
