The ultimate brain map

A new map of the human brain could be the most accurate yet, as it combines all sorts of different kinds of data. This might finally solve a century of disagreements over the shapes and positions of different brain areas.

I think that classifying different discrete regions of the brain is a foolhardy exercise, except for maybe surgeons. If you're really interested in how a brain works, you aught to understand the dynamics of individual neurons.

I do not understand the logic behind simply mapping the organ brain. Even though scientists have fully worked out the brain-wiring diagram of a tiny worm (Caenorhabditis elegans), they do not understand how to use this information to get an idea of how its brain/mind works. Considering brain plasticity, I think it is best to map/chart what mind states and mind-related activities (such as engaging in games, ruminating and worrying, participating in mindfulness meditation, etc.) bring about structural changes in neurons and their connections. This information can then be useful for interventions, etc., and can be a more worthwhile endeavor than to simply find out which part of the brain is connected/associated with which other parts.

Without knowing much of anything I will say that we're always trying to find borders and areas to label this or that in everything. When it comes to the brain I think that approach is very dangerous.

Scientists equate the brain with the mind (they even often say “the brain is the mind”!). They forget that the brain is another organ in the body that the mind is aware of, just the way the mind is aware of anything else in the world and the universe.
