Aloha! Here’s a fun-to-dance Hapa-haole hula number that I’ve treasured since I learned it more than 40 years ago. This dance brings vivid images of the beautiful people and islands of Hawaii. I hope you have fun watching this video. As they say, hula is fun to watch, but even more fun to do.

Do The Hula
Words & Music by Don McDiarmid (1936)

Do the Hula

If there’s anything you’d like to do

It’s the only way you’ll find

That a trip around the island is fun

When you’ve once begun

Tell of the moon above so high

The humu humu nuku nuku swimming by

Talk about the boys all hurrying back

To the little brown gal in the little grass shack.

Hula if you want to whisper “I love you”

It’s the thing to do

Picking flowers, get them every time

In a tropic clime

When you walk on the silvery sand

You never have to talk, simply use your hands

Do the Hula, go and do your dance … oho

Do the Hula along the road to romance.

Don Ho and I agree that you are magnificent. (But my opinion counts more than his, because I say so.)
