Imagine having your affair uncovered because your nephew or something was a musical genius and people hundreds of years later still had his hair.

Can't wait until one of these machines drops at the local Walmart so I can start building an army of my clones to take over the world.

My favorite part of genome sequencing is that while it’s a very difficult biological challenge, it’s arguably a far greater challenge in the computer science aspect. Many fascinating and groundbreaking algorithms were discovered and the field of strings was greatly advanced by this project. I had the privilege of taking a class from one of the main researchers on the genome project and it was absolutely delightful, and mesmerizingly insurmountable

Scientist were so preoccupied with whether or not they could genome sequence Beethovens hair, they didn’t stop to think if they should

It just sounds to me like that hair just wasn't Beethoven's

I’m not questioning the science. I would question wether or not the hair that was tested was in fact Beethovens. If he isn’t related to his relatives and those who can trace their genealogy back to him then how sure is it that this hair sample is actually his? If the genealogy doesn’t match the dna then I question the source of the dna.

That DNA sequencing has improved so much is cool, but I'm curious what the policy is on sharing that data with third parties like corporations or law enforcement.

You missed the most important part, that he suffered from lead poisoning..

I remember learning about the Human Genome Project in high school and it’s amazing how much it’s done for many scientific fields

One of these days, people are gonna use sci-fi movies as drinking games. Every time their ancestors correctly predict something, take a shot! 😂

It would be nice if eventually we could ensure babies are born without syndromes and defects as a standard peocedure.
